Week 4 is over and some of the games lived up to their hype (BAL/PIT) and some did not (NE/MIA). Some other games were much closer than they should have been... The Saints squeaked by the Panthers, 16-14 on a last minute field goal. The Niners got beat by the Falcons by that same score in that same manner, so now they are 0-4. Although they tried their hardest, the Packers couldn't give their game to the Lions after being up 28-14, winning by only two points, 28-26. Behind a last minute TD pass by Kyle Orton the Broncos beat the Titans 26-20. The Chargers beat the Cardinals to death, 41-10, and Sanchise and the Jets put it on the dreadful Bills, 38-14. In a bit of a shocker the Colts left too much time on the clock when they scored their game tying TD and the Jags came back and hit the third longest FG in league history, 59 yards, to down the Colts 31-28.
In The Return of McNabb, the Redskins were able to hold on to a 17-12 victory after knocking Michael Vick out of the game early in the second quarter. Kolb came in and couldn't do a whole lot as he resembled a furry woodland creature staring into the beaming brightness of a monster machine bearing down on him... and the Redskins defense isn't even good. What's he going to do when he faces teams like the Packers, Bears, and Giants? That young man needs to grow up quickly (in a football sense).
In what was supposed to be a nice divisional matchup between the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins the Patriots managed to score on a kickoff return, blocked fg return, interception return, and the more traditional methods of running and passing with the offense. Oh, yeah, they also had a blocked punt. At the half the score was 7-6, Miami. At the end the score was 41-14, New England... and Randy Moss had ZERO catches. There's even only one time that I can remember he was targeted (tuck that away in the back of your mind).
The Game of The Week lived up to its hype, as the Steelers and the Ravens usually do. And, as usual, the game was a clash of the defensive Titans. The score was 10-7, Ravens, at halftime, and neither team scored in the third quarter. In the fourth, Charlie Batch marched the Steelers 93 yards, converting several key 3rd downs, for a touch down. On the next drive the Ravens moved the ball well and on 4th and goal from the two yard line tried to throw a fade to Anquan Boldin in the back of the endzone but it fell incomplete out of bounds with just over 2:00 left. The Ravens D was able to come up with a stop and the Steelers had to punt it away. For some reason the Steelers, on the next drive, backed down into a sort-of quasi-prevent defense and 3 plays later the Ravens were back in the redzone with just over 30 seconds left. On the next play Joe Flacco found a wide open TJ Houshmandzadeh in the end zone for what would end up being the game-winning touchdown. The Steelers had one more chance to move the ball but Charlie Batch, on the first play of the drive, tried to force a throw and Ray Lewis made a diving catch for the interception to ice the game. It was a great game, but the Steelers now get Big Ben back after serving his 4 game suspension for being an idiot and he will most likely be there on December 5th when the Steelers go into Baltimore with revenge on their minds.
In other league news, Michael Vick will be out indefinitely as he as an injury to his rib cartilidge (which just doesn't sound like it feels very good), Ray Rice is still using his knee fairly gingerly, Ben Roethlisberger is coming back (after the Steeler's BYE week), The 49ers fired their offensive coordinator (although that happened last week), and the Patriots have traded Randy Moss to the Vikings. That should help them out a lot, and New England will the plug the hole as they usually do.
The Frenzy standings have been updated to reflect the results of these games and this early in the season there's a lot of jockeying for position. Week 5 is now here and it kicks off Sunday at 1:00pm. You all have until then to make your pick for week 5. Enjoy.

something to consider for next year: person picks 2 of their 3 teams. the last team is randomly generated by the computer. September 22, 2008 9:32 PM

What do you guys think about keeping the rules the same as far as picking your three teams and each week picking one, but instead of JUST picking a team, you get scheduled against an opponent who is also in the game. The person whose team wins by the most(or loses by the least) gets the victory? September 25, 2008 12:05 PM

I might remove the BYE week and start the playoffs a week early. This would set up a two week opening round, a one week 2nd round, and a two week championship round... 5 weeks of playoffs altogether. This might aleviate some of the tiebreaker issues I'm trying to work around with the current playoff set up. December 22, 2008 11:12 AM
